Bringing home a new plant is exciting, whether you’re starting with a tiny tissue culture or welcoming an already-acclimated plant into your Kayllection. Use this guide to help your new arrival transition and thrive.
Tissue Culture Acclimation
Tissue cultures require a gradual transition from their sterile, high-humidity environment to normal growing conditions. Your TC will arrive sealed in its growing container and should remain sealed until you’re ready to begin acclimation.
When you’re ready, carefully remove the plant and gently rinse away all remaining gel from the roots using lukewarm water. Take your time—the roots can be delicate.
Transfer your TC into an appropriate growing medium and maintain high humidity while it adjusts. Provide bright, indirect light and gradually reduce humidity as the plant establishes new growth.
Avoid fertilizer immediately after deflasking. Your new plant needs time to adjust before introducing additional nutrients.
Acclimated Plant Care
Your acclimated plant has already completed the transition out of tissue culture and is established outside its original sterile environment.
When it arrives, give it time to adjust to its new home before repotting or making major changes. Provide appropriate light, warmth and humidity for the specific variety, and monitor moisture carefully.
Remember: acclimated doesn’t mean fully mature. Many of these are still young plants and may appreciate a little extra humidity and attention while settling in.
After Your Plant Arrives
Unpack your plant as soon as possible and inspect it upon arrival. Shipping can be stressful for live plants, so some temporary drooping or cosmetic changes can occur while your plant adjusts.
Give your plant a stable environment and avoid immediately repotting, fertilizing or making several changes at once.

Will I receive the exact plant pictured?
Acclimated plants are sold as the exact plant pictured unless otherwise stated. The plant shown in the listing is the plant you’ll receive.
Are tissue cultures the exact plant pictured?
Tissue cultures are sold as Grower’s Choice unless otherwise stated. Listing photos are representative examples. Your TC will be hand-selected from the available inventory, so size, leaf count, coloring and variegation can naturally vary.
Are tissue cultures beginner friendly?
They can be! However, tissue cultures require more specialized care during acclimation than established plants. Please familiarize yourself with the acclimation process before purchasing.
When should I repot my plant?
Unless there is an immediate issue with the growing medium or roots, allow shipped plants time to adjust before repotting. Tissue cultures should follow the appropriate acclimation process.
